According to DP World, this new 430-meter berth marks a major step in sustainable logistics, featuring some of Europe’s largest quay cranes, straddle carriers, and automated stacking cranes. As informed, the berth boosts the port’s trading capacity by over a third, providing faster turnaround times and greater supply chain reliability.

The project has generated 200 new permanent jobs and is part of DP World’s £1 billion expansion plan to make London Gateway the UK’s largest container port within five years. This expansion includes plans for fifth and sixth berths to support the handling of larger vessels and the future “megaships.”

This new berth, alongside our £1bn investment in the fifth and sixth berths, will further enable us to service the largest vessels in operation worldwide today, and the larger, future megaships currently under construction, while also advancing our goal to be net-zero by 2050. said Ernst Schulze, Chief Executive Officer for Ports & Terminals at DP World in the UK

The London Gateway facility is strategically connected to the London Gateway Logistics Park, which offers 9.25 million square feet of warehousing and multimodal links to road and rail, enhancing both domestic and international connectivity.

To remind, works also began to install a shore power system at Portsmouth International Port, enabling ships to plug into clean electric power while sitting at berth.
